Sphaeropteris trichodesma is another species of tree fern in Singapore that looked very similar to this fern. The main distinction between the two is the "pubescence of their secondary rachises, costae, costules and vein" [1]. Sphaeropteris trichodesma is more hairy in these parts of the fern.
